Professional Qualifications
I have an advanced certificate and Diploma in Christian Counselling which were completed between 1999 and 2002. This qualifies me to work with faith and spirituality issues as and when appropriate to do so as well as secular issues.
In 2005 I completed a Bachelor degree (BSc) in Therapeutic Counselling at Leeds Metropolitan University.
In 2012 I completed a Masters Degree in Psychological Therapies also at Leeds Metropolitan University.
I successfully completed my BACP accreditation in 2012.
I am committed to personal and professional development and I have undertaken many courses to facilitate this. I completed a Mindfulness Instructor Diploma in July 2016 which qualifies me to integrate Mindfulness into my counselling model.
Areas of Specialism
I have a wealth of knowledge regarding using a short term 6 session model. This has proven to be particularly effective for people who are experiencing issues such as anxiety, stress, mild to moderate depression, work related problems and relationship problems. I consider short term therapy to be one of my specialisms which I think is an important consideration during the present economic climate. Consequentially, because of other financial commitments, you may feel counselling is at the bottom of your priority list but time limited therapy may feel more financially viable. However, please refer to `how many session will I need` on the `frequently asked questions` page for more details about this. Click on FAQ
Personal Approach
My core model is person centred but I also use an integrative approach which means I incorporate other counselling models as and when necessary e.g.relational, Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT) and Mindfulness. In my experience the development of the therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance as this helps to encourage a sense of safety and trust.
I believe that counselling needs to embrace a person`s individuality. Certain models work for some and not others. I therefore work intuitively to use whatever skills I believe are necessary.
