What will happen during my first counselling session?
To begin with, I will offer you an initial assessment. This will enable you to tell me a little about your problems and we can discuss what you require from counselling. This will give us the opportunity to decide whether or not we could work together within a counselling relationship.
How long will each session last?
Sessions will be on a weekly of fortnightly basis and last for 50 minutes.
How much does each session cost?
Each session costs £45 including initial assessments.
What happens if I miss a session?
Your appointment is yours and cannot be given to anyone else. For this reason missed appointments must be paid for unless I have to miss the session in which case no fee will be required.
Is it confidential?
I abide by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy ethical framework, therefore as far as possible, all information disclosed by you will be confidential. However there may be some exceptions, for example, if you are at risk of harming yourself or someone else, or disclose serious law breaking, I may deem it necessary to break confidentiality. If this happens I will endeavour to inform you of my intentions. Additionally, I am required to receive supervision by BACP but your identity is not revealed.
How many sessions will I need?
This is often difficult to determine but can be discussed during the initial assessment. As previously stated, I am experienced in using a 6 session model and often this proves to be sufficient. However, it may be necessary to work together for longer, depending on the extent and depth of your problems. We will review your progress together on a regular basis. If you decide you would like to terminate counselling before the agreed time, I ask for two sessions notice if possible, to enable a satisfactory ending.
